Running
NOBODY IS LEFT BEHIND!
Tuesday evening club runs – 6:00pm – 7:30pm approximately
The Tuesday night club runs are organised along the roads of Burnham on Sea together with the surrounding areas of Berrow, Brean, Highbridge and Huntspill. Runs are organised into different groups as described below:
Fab Five: Run is approximately 5km, run at a pace of around 8 minute kilometres (roughly a 40 minute parkrun). The run may include short stops to allow the to regroup if gaps appear. This group is aimed at:
- Individuals who are trying to bring up, or just maintain their fitness by completing two or three 5km runs per week.
- Individuals returning from injury.
- Individuals that have run a hard race on Sunday and are looking for a gentle ‘recovery’ run.
- Individuals that have recently completed the Couch-to-5km and are looking to complete some consistent running before moving onto a new pace or the next stage of their running aims.
Super 7: Run is approximately 7km at 7 minute kilometer pace, or 4.4 miles at 11.16 minute mile pace (roughly a 35 minute parkrun). The run commonly includes a brief stop to allow a regroup and ensure that nobody gets left behind.
During the summer months, sessions are organised to incorporate training on the track, as well as runs that involve Burnham/Berrow/Brean beach, trail runs – for example on The Mendips (Crooks Peak) or runs that incorporate local landmarks such as Brent Knoll and Brean Down. A pub is a common reward at the end of these runs.
Other run groups during the summer may include longer runs, with run times 1 hour or more, or distances around 7 miles, depending on pace.
Winter runs are shorter, taking account of weather conditions and along routes that are well lit to enjoy running safely. The club meet at The Bay Centre, Cassis Close for the 6:00pm sessions, however, some runs start from alternative locations noted by run leaders on the Harriers Facebook or Spond.
The club also has several qualified leaders in running fitness and a qualified Coach in Running Fitness to provide coaching and technical support to improve your running.
Members will also post additional runs, such as on a Sunday morning.
Follow the Burnham-on-sea Harriers Facebook page for runs organised outside of our normal Tuesday night club run, or other social/club organised runs. Members also have access to Spond, where many races, runs and other events are posted.
